What is short-term rehabilitation?
Short-term rehabilitation, also known as skilled rehabilitation or post-acute care, is designed to help you recover faster after a hospital stay so you won’t require a repeat hospital stay or because you are unable to safely assume life at home. At St. Michael’s Healthcare, you would go to our onsite therapy gym one or more times a day for physical, occupational or speech therapy, depending on what your personal doctor prescribes. Our team will be in regular contact with you, your family and doctor(s) during your stay.
How long does short-term rehabilitation last?
Your length of stay depends on why you’re receiving rehabilitation care. Some people recovering from a hip replacement may need only a few weeks or so of therapy, while someone recovering from a stroke may need more time. At St. Michael’s Healthcare, we will do our best to ensure medical care is provided no longer than needed to ensure a positive outcome for you.
Are Medicare, Medicaid or other payments accepted for short-term rehab?
Typically, Medicare coverage is provided for rehabilitation following an eligible hospital stay. Those without Medicare may find their stays are covered by managed care or private insurance. At St. Michael’s Healthcare, we accept most insurance, Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, Medicaid, VA Contracts, Managed Care Plans, Long Term Care Insurance Policies, private pay, private insurance, worker's comp, and commercial insurance.
Do you provide transportation from the hospital?
We accept patients 24/7 at St. Michael’s Healthcare and are happy to schedule transportation from the surrounding region.
